Client safety and well-being are paramount. While dedicated clinical support and guidance are provided during regularly scheduled therapy sessions, this practice is not structured or equipped to offer immediate crisis intervention or emergency services. Please review the following mandatory protocols for managing emergencies and clinical crises.

1. In Case of an Immediate Emergency

If a mental health emergency or acute crisis occurs, individuals must NOT wait for a scheduled therapy appointment and must NOT attempt to contact the therapist via the website, client portal, email, or social media. Instead, take one of the following actions immediately:

  • Call 911 or proceed directly to the nearest hospital emergency room.

  • Call or text 988 to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

  • Text HOME to 741741 to connect with a crisis counselor via the Crisis Text Line.

  • For veterans, dial 988 and Press 1 to access the Veterans Crisis Line.

2. Urgent Mental Health Support Resources

If immediate physical danger is not present but urgent mental health support is required, the following national resources are available for assistance:

  • NAMI Helpline: 1-800-950-NAMI (6264) | National Alliance on Mental Illness

  • SAMHSA Helpline: 1-800-662-HELP (4357) | Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration

  • RAINN National Sexual Assault Hotline: 1-800-656-HOPE (4673)

3. Non-Emergency Communications

When a crisis is not present and communication involves standard, non-urgent practice matters:

  • The secure client portal should be utilized to schedule, reschedule, or cancel appointments.

  • The specific, official communication channels outlined during the initial intake process should be used to contact the therapist.

  • A response window of up to 48 business hours should be anticipated for all non-urgent messages.

4. Limitations of Out-of-Session Contact

Continuous, 24/7 clinical availability is not provided by Mary Paisley. Administrative and non-urgent communications are processed strictly during standard business hours. Social media channels, standard email, and website contact forms are entirely inappropriate for urgent clinical situations and must never be utilized to seek emergency support.

5. Crisis Protocols and Legal Mandates

If a client discloses intent or plans for self-harm or harm directed toward others during a live session, the therapist is legally and ethically required to take necessary clinical steps to ensure immediate safety. This includes contacting emergency response services or designated local crisis teams if required. The therapist functions as a mandated reporter and will act fully in accordance with Florida legal, ethical, and professional licensing standards whenever a client's safety is compromised.

6. Collaborative Safety Planning

Clients concerned about managing clinical symptoms or safety outside of scheduled session times are encouraged to actively collaborate with the therapist to develop a formal, personalized safety plan during a scheduled appointment. A comprehensive safety plan typically incorporates:

  • Individualized distress-tolerance coping strategies and grounding techniques.

  • A designated network of personal emergency contacts, including trusted friends or family members.

  • A structured list of localized crisis resources and rapid-response support services.

7. Clinical Scope of Practice

While this clinician is fully committed to providing high quality outpatient therapeutic care, the formal scope of this practice explicitly excludes the following services:

  • Immediate or walk-in crisis intervention services.

  • On-call coverage, text-based crisis coaching, or guaranteed same-day emergency appointments.

  • Psychiatric medication management, prescriptions, or emergency psychiatric care.

8. Formal Acknowledgement

Engagement with the clinical services provided by Mary Paisley constitutes formal acknowledgement and acceptance of these crisis limitations. All individuals utilizing these services are expected to remain proactive regarding personal safety and maintain active awareness of the independent emergency resources detailed above.
